CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) - The University of Central Arkansas will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new UCA Downtown at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 14 at 1105 Oak Street in Conway.

As part of the grand opening and ribbon cutting, original art works created by UCA students in the Department of Art will be featured in the front, gallery section of the building.

The approximate 2500-square-foot facility will also be home to culinary, fine arts, technology and other community education and lifelong learning programs hosted by UCA.

Located within walking distance to popular restaurants, shopping, Toad Suck Square and Simon Park, UCA Downtown can also be rented to host upscale events, business meetings and other small functions.

Central Baptist College to add band program

CONWAY, Ark. (CBC) - Central Baptist College has announced the addition of band to its programs for the 2016 fall semester.  In addition Tim Gunter has been hired as Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music. Gunter will begin recruiting immediately and anticipates to have 30 students for fall 2016.

Gunter is most well-known for his tenure as Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark, a position he held for 15 years.    He has also served as Associate Director of Bands at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. and numerous bands across the state of Arkansas.  Gunter most recently has served as the Pastor of Worship and Discipleship at First Baptist Church in Camden, Ark. since 2012.

CPD asking for help solving thefts at new hospital site


CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) – The Conway Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for stealing from a construction site.

According to a Facebook post from the department, a number of welders have been stolen from the site at the new Baptist Health Hospital. Police said they aren’t sure if the thefts are connected.

Surveillance cameras did capture an image of a person and a truck on the site, which police shared on social media.

Officer on leave after weapon accidentally discharges during arrest

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - A Conway police officer is now on paid administrative leave after his weapon accidentally discharged while making an arrest on Sunday.


Public Information Officer LaTresha Woodruff told THV11 News that 26-year-old Alexander Wood, of Greenbrier, was arrested after the police department received a call from a Walmart employee about a shoplifter around 10:41 a.m.

According to Woodruff’s report, an officer’s weapon accidentally discharged during the arrest. No one was injured from the gunfire or the crash.

A police report stated that Woods had been stealing electronic equipment at Walmart by prying open security devices with a screw driver.

Conway opens real-life escape game

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - In the heart of downtown Conway, a facility is offering the chance to experience what it's like to be trapped in a room where you must follow signs and clues to make an escape.

It is called Escape Mystery Room, and it is located at 707 Parkway, suite 101 in Conway. The goal of the Escape Mystery Room creators was to create a unique, detail oriented and immersive escape room game unlike any other. There are several different rooms that you and a group of people can choose from.

Official shares date, time of when Ark. River at Toad Suck Dam will crest

FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. (Dec. 30, 2015) -- The Arkansas River is expected to crest at the Toad Suck Lock and Dam close to midnight on December 30/31st, according to the National Weather Service. The elevation of the crest is anticipated to be 280.2 feet.

This flood is expected to be comparable to the water level of the floods earlier this year, so residents who experienced flooding problems then should prepare for it now.

Lake Conway is expected to rise to 4 or 5 feet above winter pool level.

There will be sandbag staging areas at the following locations:

1.48 Easterwood Point Road at Mayflower Fire Station.

2.South End of Faulkner Meadows Lane just before 120 near the pumping station

3.At the entrance of Stanford Road of HWY 65.

Conway police search for 20-yr-old woman

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - The Conway Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a 20-year-old who is wanted for forgery and fleeing in a vehicle.

Heather "Lucky" Crews reportedly drove away from police after they caught her attempting to sell stolen property obtained from a local vehicle break-in. According to the Conway Police Department, Crews is well aware of the warrant for her arrest and that all requests to get her to turn herself in has gone unanswered.
