CONWAY, Ark. – Registration is open for the 14th Annual First Security Conway Kids’ Triathlon with more than 200 kids signed up so far.  Youth ages six to 15 can still register online at www.conwaykidstri.com or online or in person until Aug.

MAUMELLE, Ark. -- Some may be looking for some fun adventures now that the fourth of July festivities are over.  With all the natural resources available in central Arkansas there is no need to worry.

If you enjoy canoe riding and kayaking, the Big Maumelle River is ready to show you a good time this weekend.  Saturday, July 9 is their "Evening Canoe Float," which comes complete with your very own park interpreter to guide you through the waters.  Guests are required to meet at the Big Maumelle boat launch and experience the serenity of twilight as it slowly changes into a peaceful moonlit night.

The launch commences at 7:00 p.m.

June 10-12 is the official "Arkansas Free Fishing Weekend" according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commision Fishing Guidebook 2011.  Residents and nonresidents may fish this weekend without fishing licenses or trout permits. Regulations for Arkansas waters apply: daily limits, slot limits and length limits must be observed.  Several new changes have occured on fishing limits, so visit http://www.agfc.com/resources/GuidebookDocs/fish2011p07-11.pdf for more information on current regulations.  

Kids’ Fishing Day at the Commission’s five fish hatcheries is Saturday, June  11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ARKids First and public libraries focus on summer safety

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. – ARKids First, the state’s CHIP program (Children’s Health Insurance Program), has partnered with the Arkansas Public Library System’s popular summer reading program to provide educational materials and a series of safety events during May, June and July.  The educational materials and events are aimed at keeping kids safe during the summer and encouraging parents of already enrolled kids to utilize ARKids benefits for well-child doctor visits.

All public library branches in the state’s system will have summer safety educational packets available for children who register for free summer reading programs.  A series of eight summer safety events will be held at public libraries throughout the state.

CONWAY, Ark. – Registration is now open for the First Security Conway Kids’ Triathlon Training Day session scheduled for June 18, 8-10 a.m. at the Centennial Valley Country Club located at 1600 Centennial Club Dr. in Conway.  Kids who will be six to 15 years old by the end of this year are eligible to attend.  The August 6 Triathlon event is one of the country’s premier youth triathlons for all kids, not just kids who participate in triathlons. AETN’s ‘Outdoor Hotline’ to discuss fishing forecast

CONWAY, Ark. (AETN) — The next episode of “Outdoor Hotline,” airing on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Thursday, May 12, at 7 p.m., will address the state’s fishing forecast.

Scheduled guests include specialists from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, as well as a professional bass angler. Topics will include an overview of fishing in the state, upcoming public meetings, the regulation setting process, how data is gathered and the hatcheries program.

Steve “Wild Man” Wilson, public affairs coordinator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will host this live, call-in program. Viewers can submit questions by phone, (800) 662-2386.
