Today's Box Office: The Avengers
News

I'm not going to go into what The Avengers is about because if you haven't seen the recent Marvel films Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Iron Man or The Incredible Hulk. Then please come out from under your rock. Here's what I will tell you; the bad guy is named Loki, he's Thor's brother and was the bad guy in the 2011 film Thor. The good guys are Nick Fury (who's been introduced in the films listed previously), Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow (she was Pepper's Potts' replacements in Iron Man 2), and Hawkeye (we got a glimpse of him in Thor). Each one of the has their own strengths and weaknesses, the idea is that they can work together and protect the Earth from Loki and his alien army.

The Avengers is nothing but awesomeness. I do recommend watching the other Marvel hero films first but you can get by without it as long as you realize you don't know the whole backstory. There were only a few instances where a reference was made to one of the other films that I didn't quite catch but I was okay with it. Each character gets an ample amount of screen time and each one gets a shot at taking out the bad guy. Some of them get a couple of shots but without a doubt it's The Hulk who gets the best one.

For those of you that want a little story, you'll get it. Joss Whedon wrote good characters and plays them off of each other well. He really captures their insecurities and fears.

Other than that, it's an action fest.

Fortunately, the awesomeness doesn't stop with The Avengers, there's a nice mid-credits scene that sets up a nice sequel and there's a post-credits scene that's just for pure humor.

I give The Avengers 11 stars out of 11.
