Conway gyms targeted for car break-ins
News

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - Thieves have recently been targeting three different gyms in Conway, stealing purses and wallets while you're doing your early-morning workout.

Your local gym may be the last spot you would think to get robbed, but just in the last week it has been a hot spot for thieves in Conway.

LaTresha Woodruff with the Conway Police Department said the break-ins have been happening during the early morning hours.

“They are going to the gym, going inside and coming back out to find someone has broken into their cars,” said Woodruff.

One of those Conway gyms targeted was 10 Fitness. They have had six cars broken into. Zach Watkins, 10 Fitness sales associate, said he noticed something was wrong when he came into work one morning.

“The person that was doing all the breaking into cars. He came in and hit every single row in the parking lot and left within five minutes,” Watkins said.

Conway police advise that you always take your valuable items with you. Never leave them anywhere in your car even if they are hidden under the dashboard. Workers at 10 Fitness said they haven't had an issue like this in the past.

“I’ve never heard of multiple cases, or someone hitting every single car in the parking lot,” Watkins said.

This is an ongoing investigation. Conway police stated they may have one suspect they are looking at, but these incidents could have been done by multiple people. They do know, that following some of the incidents, a suspect was seen driving a white SUV.

“We don't know if there's more than one person at this point, but we are trying to locate that vehicle to figure this all out,” Woodruff said.

Suspects also targeted CrossFit Conway and Doctor Sweat.

If you have any information regarding these break-ins, call the Conway Police Department at (501) 450-6120.
