CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - A Conway police officer is now on paid administrative leave after his weapon accidentally discharged while making an arrest on Sunday.

Public Information Officer LaTresha Woodruff told THV11 News that 26-year-old Alexander Wood, of Greenbrier, was arrested after the police department received a call from a Walmart employee about a shoplifter around 10:41 a.m.

According to Woodruff’s report, an officer’s weapon accidentally discharged during the arrest. No one was injured from the gunfire or the crash.

A police report stated that Woods had been stealing electronic equipment at Walmart by prying open security devices with a screw driver.

She said the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while this incident is investigated, and the man arrested is facing several charges including theft of property, fleeing, and leaving the scene of an accident.
