FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. (Dec. 30, 2015) -- The Arkansas River is expected to crest at the Toad Suck Lock and Dam close to midnight on December 30/31st, according to the National Weather Service. The elevation of the crest is anticipated to be 280.2 feet.

This flood is expected to be comparable to the water level of the floods earlier this year, so residents who experienced flooding problems then should prepare for it now.

Lake Conway is expected to rise to 4 or 5 feet above winter pool level.

There will be sandbag staging areas at the following locations:

1.48 Easterwood Point Road at Mayflower Fire Station.

2.South End of Faulkner Meadows Lane just before 120 near the pumping station

3.At the entrance of Stanford Road of HWY 65.

Residents will be provided sand and bags to fill for themselves. These should be in place by 4:00PM December 29, 2015.

Although there is a levee system built to protect people and property in such cases as this, residents in low lying areas should be aware and take precautions to protect themselves in the event of water rising in tributaries or a breach of a levee.
