Conway cab driver held at gunpoint speaks to THV11

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) -- Surveillance footage could help track down a man who robbed a Conway taxi driver at gun point. Conway Yellow Cab installed cameras after being robbed several times.

It happened early Saturday while Maurice White was finishing his early morning shift and around 4 a.m. He picked up a man who needed to be dropped off at Conway's Stone Ridge Apartments.

The man held White at gunpoint while he took $200 from him. White reacted at first by attempting to take the gun.

"I thought it was grabbable distance, so I tried to reach for it," said White. "But it wasn't smart thinking, I had my seatbelt on."

Andrew Lewey owns the company. "To take that away from not only me, but my drivers is so frustrating."

It's the second time this year. The first robbery happened in January, leading him to put cameras in his cars. Lewey explained what frustrates him the most is the lack of respect for his employees.

"They go through so much to earn this money, but you're going to take it with a simple gun."
