Bill Clinton headlines Arkansas Democratic rallies

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - "It's tough," Kimberly Blanks explained how life was surviving on just $6.50 per hour worked. Blanks continued, "$6.50 is absurd. Irrational for some, but reality for Kimberly Blanks. "As a full time student, especially, you cannot live off of minimum wage," she added.

Minimum wage requirements is just one of many issues former President Bill Clinton addressed to this crowd at University of Central Arkansas. Clinton said, "We need to reform the student loan program, we need to find a way to help people refinance those loans at lower interest rates, we need to give everybody a chance to pay it back as a percentage of their income."

Clinton is headlining a series of rallies for Arkansas Democrats, hitting several college campuses trying to ramp up voter registration for the upcoming election. University of Central Arkansas student, Elijah Paulie said, "You know, we're the voice of America." Blanks added, "Republicans are hoping that we're not going to come out and vote whereas the democrats honestly, truly recognize the power that we hold as the youngest demographic that can vote. And so I have respect for the fact that they respect us."

Clinton laid out what was at stake for the middle class and what these college students needed to do to get involved in the upcoming midterm election. Clinton said, "There is nothing that can hold us back, but us. Vote for Mark Pryor, vote for Mike Ross, vote for Pat Hayes, vote for mike Beebe's legacy and you'll be happy a month from now."
