LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Baptist Health) –– Baptist Health has purchased approximately 37 acres to construct a wholly owned and operated medical center in Conway to serve the growing healthcare needs of Faulkner and surrounding counties.

“Baptist Health and a dedicated team of local physicians will bring to the community of Conway and surrounding areas an innovative and  cooperative approach to providing the highest standards of clinical quality, a fully staffed emergency room, and a proven track record of long-term commitment to supporting Arkansas communities,” said Russell Harrington, president and CEO of Baptist Health.

Baptist Health is collaborating with more than 30 Conway-based physicians to develop and open the new medical center in Conway to be operated as a not-for-profit, faith-based community hospital providing comprehensive clinical services.

Dr. Benjamin Dodge of Conway is chairman of a steering committee of 9 physicians representing over 30 local physicians who for several years have sought a collaborative alignment to benefit the long term outlook of healthcare in Central Arkansas.

“We feel Baptist Health understands the current healthcare environment and through collaboration has created an excellent avenue for area physicians and Baptist Health to align their goals, roll up their sleeves together, and get down to the business of creating a great hospital.” said Dr. Dodge

“Our collective goal is to create a hospital where the doctor is enabled and empowered to ensure their patients care will be delivered by a compassionate team focused on superb clinical outcomes.” he stated.

This new hospital facility will address the health-care needs of Faulkner County and surrounding areas, which have experienced unprecedented population growth over the past 10 years.

Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway will employ approximately 425 health-care professionals and staff and be led by an experienced leadership team working closely with local physicians committed to improving the health of the community.

A local full-service hospital will enhance the potential for the area’s economic growth by contributing to an increase in local employment and providing state-of-the-art health-care services that help attract new businesses.

As the state’s only Arkansas-based, locally owned and managed, not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare organization, Baptist Health believes health care is more than a business –– it is a healing ministry.

The proposed 200,000-square-foot hospital is projected to open in 2016 and will be located along the west side of Interstate 40 near Exit 126 in Conway. The facility is expected to provide 100 beds, seven operating rooms, and a Level III trauma-center emergency room.

The two year construction project is expected to generate approximately 250 jobs.

Final design, construction plans, financing, and legal review are expected to be completed in 2014 with construction to follow.  The new Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway is projected to open in 2016.
