Cabot Lions Club to host Pancake Breakfast

CABOT, Ark. (KTHV) - On Saturday, October 10, the Cabot Lions Club invites you to join them at Cabotfest for some pancakes. 

The organization is hosting their annual Pancake Breakfast from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Cabot First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall

You can purchase a ticket from any Cabot Lions Club member or the day of at the entrance of the church. Adults are $5 each and kids ages 10 and under are $2 each. Carry-Out/To-Go Orders will be available.

Proceeds raised from the event will go directly towards the purchasing of eyeglasses for local school children and in-need adults, assisting local applicants with vital glaucoma and cataract surgeries, providing vision-screenings at local daycares, pre-schools, churches, health fairs and the Lonoke County Christian Clinic, as well as supporting the Cabot Lions Scholarship Fund. 

The Cabot Lions Club ask that you bring any unwanted eyeglasses to the breakfast so they can recycle them.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts 2015-16 Science and Arts Café lecture series will feature Henderson State University professor Dr. Travis Langley and several ASMSA faculty members.

The first lecture on Thursday, Oct. 8, features ASMSA French instructor Bryan Adams, who will present “French Crash Course Using the AIM Method.” AIM stands for Accelerative Integrated Methodology, which uses gestures, music, dance and theater to help students learn a new language. Adams’ lecture will help attendees learn some French using AIM during the session.

Scientist Bill Nye to visit UCA

CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) - Bill Nye, scientist, engineer, comedian, author, inventor and host of Bill Nye the Science Guy, will give a public lecture at the University of Central Arkansas on Oct. 6.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the Farris Center on Bruce Street.

Tickets are $15 for the general public, $5 for students/children and free for UCA students with a valid student I.D.

“Bill Nye is an amazing scientist, author, teacher and comedian who will engage and educate the audience with his humorous story telling,” said Amanda Horton, director of UCA Public Appearances.  “We are ecstatic to be offering this caliber of talent to the Central Arkansas community.”

Nye is devoted to bolstering a scientifically literate society by making science accessible as well as entertaining.  His goal is to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes the world work.

Conway teen invited to USA Triathlon Junior Elite Men's Camp

Conway teen invited to USA Triathlon Junior Elite Men's Camp

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - A Conway 9th grader has been asked to attend the USA Triathlon Junior Elite Men's Camp at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center. 

Bryan Pendergraft, 15, is one of 13 athletes, ages 15 to 17, selected nationally to attend the camp. He is a Conway native that has been competing in triathlons for six years.  His 14-year-old brother and 8-year-old sister also compete in triathlons.  This year, the sibling trio competed in triathlons all across the US including, Iowa, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas. 

Pendergraft recently competed in a USA Triathlon National Championship where he placed fourth in the nation.  Next year, he will compete nationally in the Junior Elite Division of triathletes.  He will also represent the USA in international competitions.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A restaurant in Little Rock is allowing the public to travel back in time for a brunch with royalty. 

Nestled on 100 acres of land on Stagecoach Road in Little Rock sits a castle fit for a queen or king and now, open to the public for events. The Castle on Stagecoach has been offering the venue for rentals suitable for all types of events including weddings, corporate parties, bridal showers, holiday dinners and so much more.  

The owners decided it was time to start a monthly event in an effort to allow anyone in the public to come enjoy a champagne brunch, tour of the grounds and enjoy live music.

"The food and experience is wonderful.  Everyone should experience this," said guest, Rance Golden.

Community Connections to kick off fall programs for kids with special needs

CONWAY, Ark. (Sept. 18, 2015) – Community Connections will kick off its fall extra-curricular programs for children with special needs and their families on Tuesday, September 22.

The programs, which are free of charge, will include theatre, music, art, flag football, cheerleading, martial arts, golf programs and an autism workshop.

“We believe ALL children deserve the opportunity to play sports and participate in the arts,” said Courtney Leach, director of Community Connections. “We adapt our programs for individual needs and utilize buddies to accommodate children so they can experience success and being part of a team.”
