15th Annual In Her Honor Women's Health Fair

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - The 15th Annual In Her Honor Women's Health Fair will take place at the Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center on April 8.

This event will include free health screenings, fitness classes, self-defense demonstrations and a light continental breakfast. There will also be a kid-friendly activity center available. 

All of this will be going on from 7:30 a.m. till noon on that Friday. It is sponsored by the Conway Regional Women's Council.

Valentine Gala and Auction success for Conway's Homeless Shelter

CONWAY, Ark. - The recent Valentine Gala and Auction benefiting the Bethlehem House in Conway yielded more than $32,000.

The event, held at oneChurch, was a sell-out for the fourth year in a row. Tyler Sellers of Preston Palmer Studios provided entertainment. The meal was provided by Pasta Grill, Stoby’s and PattiCakes.

Funds came from table sponsorships and the sale of items donated by individuals and local businesses. For the second year, a jewelry hunt sponsored by Dayer Jewelers added $2,500 to the fundraiser’s earnings.

'Mamma Mia!' coming to UCA for two February performances

CONWAY, Ark. — The long-running hit musical “Mamma Mia!” will visit the University of Central Arkansas’s Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall for performances on Feb. 15 and 17.

Both performances are set for 7:30 p.m.  While the Feb. 15 performance is sold out, tickets are still available for the Feb. 17 show. 

“Mamma Mia!” is the ultimate feel-good show that combines ABBA’s greatest hits with an enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship. Writer Catherine Johnson brings the funny tale to the stage of a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father. On the eve of her wedding, her quest brings three men from her mother’s past back to the Greek island paradise they visited 20 years earlier.

“Peace, Love, and Refugee” devised puppet slam by UCA students

CONWAY, Ark. — Alpha Psi Omega, University of Central Arkansas’s honorary theatre society, will host a devised theatre puppet slam titled “Peace, Love, and Refugee” on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m. at UCA Downtown, 1105 West Oak Street in Conway. 

“Peace, Love, and Refugee” will consist of short collaborative theatre performances. These productions will be written by UCA students and focus on their interpretations of the word, ‘refugee.’

There is a $5 admission with proceeds going to El Zocalo Immigrant Resource Center in Little Rock.

“Devised theatre is when collaborative ideas are combined with improvisational methods and movement techniques in order to create a thought-provoking performance,” said Jordyn Daniels, UCA senior and president of UCA’s Alpha Psi Omega Chapter.

UCA receives $250,000 gift in support of the arts

CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) - The University of Central Arkansas received a $250,000 gift that moves the university closer to becoming an All-Steinway campus.

Joe Whisenhunt Sr., Joe Whisenhunt Jr., Kari Whisenhunt and the entire Whisenhunt family dedicated the gift in memory of Margaret Whisenhunt, who helped establish the Friends of Music, an organization that works to enhance the student experience in the Department of Music.

The donation allowed the upgrade and equipment purchase for a practice room suite made up of five practice spaces that will bear Margaret Whisenhunt’s name.

UCA to host Argentine student for two-month visit

CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) - The University of Central Arkansas will host 15 Argentine students as part of the Friends of Fulbright program from January 8 to February 26.

Friends of Fulbright is a U.S. Department of State supported program, sponsored by the Fulbright Commission Argentina and U.S. Embassy in Argentina.

This program is designed to increase student mobility for outstanding junior and senior level university students majoring in economics, business, education and political science. Selected students will be in residence on the UCA campus participating in cultural activities on campus and in the community. Students also will earn three English language credit hours.

Grand opening for new UCA Downtown on Jan. 14

CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) - The University of Central Arkansas will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new UCA Downtown at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 14 at 1105 Oak Street in Conway.

As part of the grand opening and ribbon cutting, original art works created by UCA students in the Department of Art will be featured in the front, gallery section of the building.

The approximate 2500-square-foot facility will also be home to culinary, fine arts, technology and other community education and lifelong learning programs hosted by UCA.

Located within walking distance to popular restaurants, shopping, Toad Suck Square and Simon Park, UCA Downtown can also be rented to host upscale events, business meetings and other small functions.
