The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN), UALR Public Radio/KUAR FM 89.1 and William F. Laman Library invite the public to a free advance screening of “As Goes Janesville” as part of Community Cinema Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Screenings will be held in the library’s auditorium.

 Trucking Industry Defense Association Awards Grant to  UCA

Niles, Ill., September 17, 2012—The Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA) has selected University of Central Arkansas (UCA) as one of four recipients of its fifth-annual Endowment Fund Grants in the amount of $5,000. The grant will help fund scholarships and research for the university’s Center for Logistics Education, Advancement, and Research (CLEAR), a program designed to prepare students for careers in the transportation industry.

“As one of the nation’s premier programs advancing the trucking industry, UCA’s CLEAR was an excellent fit for this grant,” said Joe Pappalardo, TIDA’s General Counsel. “This grant reflects our commitment to the future growth and success of our industry, and we are pleased to award UCA and its deserving CLEAR program.”

Pappalardo will present the grant to Dr. Douglas Voss, director of the CLEAR program for the University of Central Arkansas, at a ceremony on September 20.

Chamber of Commerce accepting nominations for awards

CONWAY, Ark. (September 11, 2012) – The Conway Area Chamber of Commerce has created a new business event to celebrate the successes of women leaders in central Arkansas.

 

The Women in Business Awards honor individuals in the Conway area who have excelled in leadership and community service and who have inspired others on both a personal and professional level. The inaugural awards luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, and will take place in the Student Center Ballroom on the University of Central Arkansas campus.

 

Brad Lacy, president and CEO of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, said although a large number of Chamber members are women-owned enterprises, there has not been an event focused exclusively on the achievements of local businesswomen.

CONWAY — Daniel Liao, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, visited the University of Central Arkansas on Wednesday, updating the campus and community on the relationship of Taiwan and the United States and Taiwan and Arkansas.

“We had a good discussion about a lot of things — educationally, culturally and economically,” UCA President Tom Courtway said.

Liao, who was the Republic of China (Taiwan’s) ambassador to Tuvalu from 2006-08, came to Houston from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle, where he was also director general. He holds a doctor of business administration degree from Pacific States University and has also held Republic of China (Taiwan) governmental posts in Dominica, Belize and Los Angeles.

In his presentation at the College of Business, Liao reiterated the strong economic partnership between Taiwan and the U.S. In 2011, there was $67.2 billion in bilateral trade, up 8.6 percent from 2010.

CONWAY – More than 100 community leaders from Arkansas and surrounding states participated in the 26th annual Community Development Institute (CDI) held August 6-10 at the University of Central Arkansas. The event concluded with a special graduation and awards ceremony.

AT&T Arkansas was honored with the Friend of Community Development Award. The award is presented each year to an individual or organization that demonstrates strong support for community development and CDI.

CDI Advisory Board Member Dr. Mark Peterson received the esteemed Bill Miller Award as recognition for his decades of conducting scholarly research and working with communities to help them realize transformative change.

Diluted earnings per share up 31 percent; Income from operations up 23 percent

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Acxiom® Corporation (Nasdaq: ACXM), a recognized leader in marketing services and technology, today announced financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2013 ended June 30, 2012.

Revenue from continuing operations was $272 million, down 2 percent compared to $276 million for the first quarter last year. Income from continuing operations increased 23 percent to $25 million in the current quarter, compared to $21 million in the prior year.
