CONWAY, Ark. — A poetry reading featuring Arkansas-based poets Terry Wright and Marck L. Beggs will take place onTuesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. at UCA Downtown.

Wright, dean of the University of Central Arkansas College of Fine Arts and Communication, is the author of seven poetry books and chapbooks, most recently, Fractal Cut-Ups, (Kattywompas) and Graphs, (Kairos Editions). He is professor of Writing and is also a visual artist who enjoys writing poems to correspond with selected original art works.

Beggs is the author of four full-length books of poetry, most recently Blind Verse and Catastrophic Chords, (both from Salmon Press). He is professor of English and former dean of the Graduate School at Henderson State University. He is also a musician who serves as the vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter for the band Dog Gods.

[“We] have known one another and considered [ourselves] ‘poetic brothers-in-arms’ for more than 30 years,” Wright said.

However, they have never given a poetry reading together.

Wright said that while he and Beggs may share like-minded poetic sensibilities, Wright skews more toward the theatrical while Beggs tends more to the musical.

“The audience should expect an ambiance of high energy and cultural evolution rather than a mood of introspective confessionalism,” Wright said.

The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the UCA College of Fine Arts and Communication. For more information, contact jdmiller@uca.edu or call (501) 450-3293.
