CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - A local university is taking the time to recognize the lives that were lost in the tragedy that struck in Paris on Friday.

The University of Central Arkansas is hosting a candlelight gathering to honor those who died in Paris on November 13. The Division of International Engagement at the university is sponsoring the event. The organization hopes to provide students, faculty, staff and community members an opportunity to reflect on world events and promote a peaceful society.

The "Candlelight Gathering for Global Peace" will be held at the Student Center Amphitheater on UCA campus Thursday, November 19 at 4:45 p.m.

UCA President Tom Courtway will make a brief statement addressing attendees about the impact of tragedies and conflict and the importance of global citizenship and peace. Six students, faculty and staff will join President Courtway to share stories of hope and overcoming tragedy. After all candles are lit, international musician Eric Vincent will perform a special song. Vincent is visiting UCA from his home in Paris for a performance at Reynolds Performance Hall on Friday, November 20 for the UCA World Languages Club.

Parking is available throughout campus. No citations will be issued to visitors attending this event.
