CONWAY, Ark. (UCA) - Bill Nye, scientist, engineer, comedian, author, inventor and host of Bill Nye the Science Guy, will give a public lecture at the University of Central Arkansas on Oct. 6.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the Farris Center on Bruce Street.

Tickets are $15 for the general public, $5 for students/children and free for UCA students with a valid student I.D.

“Bill Nye is an amazing scientist, author, teacher and comedian who will engage and educate the audience with his humorous story telling,” said Amanda Horton, director of UCA Public Appearances.  “We are ecstatic to be offering this caliber of talent to the Central Arkansas community.”

Nye is devoted to bolstering a scientifically literate society by making science accessible as well as entertaining.  His goal is to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes the world work.

Nye, fascinated by how bicycles, airplanes and other things work, earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University in 1977.  He then went to Seattle to work as an engineer.  There he started writing comedy, leading to the birth of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

He won seven national Emmy Awards for writing, performing and producing.  The show won 18 Emmys in five years.  He also wrote five children’s books about science in between creating the shows.

"We are thrilled to have such a positive response from the students at UCA, “Horton said.  “Bill Nye has had the most hits on our website since we announced our season, and students were lined up on the first day of school to get their tickets.  We decided to have this lecture in the Farris Center so that more students and community members could have access to this event.  We have currently sold more than 3,900 tickets.”
