4th Annual Author Fair: Faulkner County Library to host local writers

CONWAY, Ark. — Faulkner County Library is hosting its 4th Annual Local Author Fair on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 1p.m. to 4 p.m.

Participating authors represent a variety of genres including nonfiction, children’s books, poetry, novels and much more.

At least 19 local authors are scheduled to participate in this year’s event. Authors will be promoting their published works and will be available to talk and sell their books to the public.

Nancy Allen, the Faulkner County Library librarian and founder of this event said, “There is an enormous number of working authors in our area. There are other literary events in central Arkansas, but none specifically for Conway and Faulkner County, and I felt like our local talent was being overlooked.”

One of these talented authors is John Vanderslice, professor of writing at the University of Central Arkansas and author of “Island Fog.” This will be the second year for Vanderslice to participate.  He is “happy to be participating again,” and is looking forward to talking with the public and sharing his work.

Jay Ruud, chair of the English department at the University of Central Arkansas, is another local talent who will be participating. Ruud’s interest in Chaucer and Arthurian legend inspired his recently published novel “Fatal Feast.” Ruud describes “Fatal Feast” as “a mystery set in the court of King Arthur, with Merlin as the investigator.” Ruud also notes that “Fatal Feast” is “the first of a series with the second book due out in March.”

This event is not only a great opportunity for local authors to promote their work, but it is also a great opportunity for aspiring writers or avid readers to become acquainted with the active members in this local literary community.

The Faulkner County Library is located at 1900 Tyler Street in Conway. All library events are free and open to the public. All ages are welcome to attend. For more information, call the library at (501) 327-7482, or email Nancy Allen at nancy@fcl.org
